About Karen

Karen Dorfman
Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Yoga Teacher

Karen’s 15 year background in dance was the foundation and inspiration for her to pursue bodywork as a career. In 1995 she completed her studies at   the Swedish Institute for Massage  Therapy in New York City.  Soon after, she relocated to Atlanta and worked as a sports massage therapist for triathletes. In 1998 she opened the Firefly Massage & Yoga Studio. She offers  many  different types of therapeutic massage including sports, swedish, post injury/post surgery rehabilitation as well as pre-natal massage, detox therapy and stress relief .

In 2000 Karen began practicing yoga. After years as a dancer and runner and having endured shoulder and knee injuries, she was led to yoga for rehabilitation.  Discovering the beauty of the practice over the years she wanted to share it with others. In 2006 she received her 200 hour yoga teacher certification from Peachtree Yoga Center in Atlanta. She now offers private yoga instruction to students who want to develop their personal practice, she runs the yoga program at Cuong Nhu Martial Arts Studio and teaches at Yoga Samadhi. Her Vinyasa Flow classes are dynamic, playful and challenging. She stresses the importance of alignment and linking the poses through the breath to create strength, flexibility and balance.  Her intention is to inspire her students to grow both on the mat and in their daily lives. Private sessions are offered at her studio for 1 or 2 people. For group class information go to www.karensyogaflow.com.

Through bodywork and yoga, Karen’s intention is to empower people to inhabit their bodies more fully and  inspire them to live a heart-driven life full of love, truth and joy. In her free time she is most likely to be found playing out in nature with her dog Darby.  She says the forest is her sanctuary and  hiking, camping,  and doing yoga in the woods are her idea of a blissful day!
